The best thing about the book is when you buy it for someone else and have zero expectations about it And then in the darkest of the days you start reading it and it absorbs you in a trance mind like state with its simplicity and magic Unexpectedly the text starts flowing and you flow with it Several days pass by and you want to slow down with the book because it is going to end so soon Years ago I didn t expect anything from Markes Borges Hesse and Mann Now I use their books as painkillers when I need to forget about the rest of the world This next best thing about the book is that it s a bit harsh as it s not always pleasant and comfortnable to see marginals from such a distance extreme close up Zhadan gets us close to the people we d like to avoid in our lives naturally We only let the people we trust get this close to us and see the best and the worst things about us But this book is precious because it shows how close you can look at people without taking your eyes away The things you ll see may surprise you
